The Children of David Augustus Bridenthal & Artelia Couch

 

 

 

David Augustus Bridenthal died suddenly in 1893 leaving five small children. Dying at such a young age, there's not much information on him.  His children are another matter - and not being one to toss out perfectly good notes . . .

 

 

 

David Ernest Bridenthal & Grace Marjorie Brogden

 

16 Feb 1885: David Ernest Bridenthal was born in Springdale, Washington County, AR.  He was called "Ernie".

30 Jun 1909: D. E. Bridenthal sold property to Ada H. Gregory.[1]

14 Apr 1910 Census, Fayetteville, Washington County, AR (Prairie Township): Ernest D. Bridenthall age 25, salesman in drug store, boarding in the residence of James D. Carter at 19 East Rock Street.  Also boarding there was [brother] Ewell A. Bridenthall.[2]

15 Aug 1917: Ernie married Grace in Fayetteville.

4 Sep 1917, Fayetteville Democrat: "Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Bridenthal, who were married recently, are at home at 216 West Dickson Street.  Mrs. Bridenthal was Miss Grace Brogdon of Springdale." 

D. E. Bridenthal was City or County Clerk in 1918.  When Alver Bridenthal registered for the draft on 12 Sep 1918, D.E. Bridenthal was the Registrar.[3]

19 Jan 1920 Census, Fayetteville, Washington County, AR (Prairie Township): David E. Bridenthal 35, AR AR AR, a bookkeeper for a real estate company; Grace M. 23, AR AL TX, employed as a collector.  The couple owned a home at 225 North Locust.[4]

22 Sep 1922: David died in Fayetteville and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.

 

 


  

 

Homer Augustus Bridenthal & Julia Morton

 

1886: Julia M. Morton was born in Arkansas.

24 Apr 1887: Homer Augustus Bridenthal was born in Washington County, AR.  He was called "Gus". 

17 Nov 1909: Gus and Julia were married in Fayetteville.  Mary Clark claims that Gus and Julia married on 19 Nov 1909, which is entirely possible.  The earlier date may have been the date of the license.

14 Apr 1910 Census, Fayetteville, Washington County, AR (Prairie Township): Pharmacist Homer A. Bridenthal 23, AR AL VA, married but with "0" years entered, renting a house at 33 East Rock Street; Julia 24, AR AR AR.[5]

5 Jun 1917: Homer Augustus Bridenthal registered for the draft in Fayetteville, AR.  He gave his birth date as 24 Apr 1887 in Fayetteville and his current address as North Locust Street, also in Fayetteville.  A self-employed druggist, he stated that he was married with 3 children and claimed an exemption based upon those dependents and a "rupture" or hernia.  He was described as medium height and build with dark brown eyes and hair. 

In 1919 H. A. Bridenthal was Master of Washington (Masonic) Lodge No. 1.[6]

3 Jan 1920 Census, Fayetteville, Washington County, AR: Druggist Homer A. Bridenthal 32, AR AR AR; Julia M. 33, AR AR AR; William 8; Catherine 7; Augustus 6; Herbert L. 1 8/12.  They were residing at 209 Meadow Street.[7]

1 Mar 1921: Gus Bridenthal was one of the charter members of the Rotary Club.[8]

January 1923: The Fayetteville Country Club was formed with Gus on the board of governors.

                In 1928 Gus Bridenthal was the manager and owner of Bridenthal's Drug Store in Fayetteville.[9]

                1930 Census, Fayetteville, Washington County, AR: Drug store manager Gus Bridenthal 44, AR US US, married for 23 years, renting a house at 324 St. Charles St; Julia 44, AR AR AR; William 19; Catherine 17; Gus Junior age 16; Herbert E. 11; lodger Herbert LaNeir 21, MO US US,  a truck driver; widowed mother Artie [nee Couch] Maguire 62, TN US US.

 14 Aug 1950: Gus died in Muskogee, Muskogee County, OK.  He was brought to Fayetteville for burial in Fairview Cemetery.[10]

1974: Julia Morton Bridenthal died.  She is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Fayetteville, AR.

Ewell Alfred Bridenthal & Caroline Courtney

 

26 Nov 1888: Ewell Alfred Bridenthal was born in Washington County, AR.[11]

14 Apr 1910 Census, Fayetteville, Washington County, AR (Prairie Township): Ewell A. Bridenthall 21, printer on job press, boarding in the household of James D. Carter at 19 East Rock Street.  Also boarding there was Ernest D. Bridenthall.[12]

26 Nov 1913: Ewell married Caroline Courtney in Fayetteville.

5 Jun 1917: Ewell Alfred Bridenthal, age 28, registered for the draft in Fayetteville, AR.  A printer for the Fayetteville Printing Company, Ewell gave his birth date as 26 Nov 1888 in Fayetteville, and stated that he had a wife and child.  He was described as medium height and build, with gray eyes and brown hair. 

7 Jan 1920 Census, Fayetteville, Washington County, AR: Printer Ewell A. Bridenthal 31, AR US VA; Carrie E. 30, AR MO MO; Alfred C. 5 2/12; mother-in-law Sallie Courtney 52, a widow, MO VA TN; sister-in-law Mabel 19, AR MO MO; brother-in-law Orval B. 16; brother-in-law William A. 11.  Their address was 18 East Meadow Street.[13]

6 Jun 1923: Ewell Bridenthal was Secretary-Treasurer of the newly formed Lions Club in Fayetteville.[14]

In 1928 Ewell was the manager of the Review Printing Company in the Fulbright Building.[15]

10 Apr 1930 Census, Fayetteville, Washington County, AR (Ward 3): Ewell L. Bridenthal 40, AR US US, renting a home at 346 Walnut St for $50 per month and employed as the manager of a printing company, married at age 24; Carrie E. age 36, AR MO MO, married at age 21, son Courtney A. 15, AR AR AR; boarder Elsie Halsey 23, stenographer for a power company.[16]

Ewell Alfred Bridenthal registered for the draft in WWII, giving his age as 53, his birth date as 26 Nov 1888, his address as 117 E. Spring St. in Fayetteville, and his place of employment as Fayetteville Printing Company at 113 N. Willow.  His next of kin was Mrs. Artie Maguire of 324 St. Charles, Fayetteville.[17]   Artie Maguire was his mother.

9 Nov 1966: Ewell died in Fayetteville and was buried in Fairview Cemetery.

Harry Lee Bridenthal

 

7 Jun 1894: Harry Lee Bridenthal was born in Fayetteville, AR.

6 Nov 1913: Harry Lee married Sarah Lillie Carl in Prairie Grove, Washington County.  She was the daughter of John and Mary Carl of Prairie Grove.  

5 Jun 1917: Harry Lee Bridenthal age 22, born 7 Jun 1894, registered for the draft in Fayetteville, AR, giving his residence as 317 Ralston Street in Fayetteville and his occupation as pharmacist (self-employed) at the Palace Drug Store.  Married with one child, he claimed an exemption based upon his dependents.  He was described as tall, of medium build, with dark brown eyes and brown hair. 

Jan 1920 Census, Prairie Grove, Washington County, AR: John T. Carl 58, AR TN TN, salesman in a general store; Mary A. 58, TN TN TN; Gladys 29, AR AR TN, saleslady in a dry goods store; son-in-law Harry Bridenthal 25, AR AR AR, a pharmacist; Sarah Lillie 24, AR AR IL; Carl Lee 4.  They were living on Buchanan Street.

15 Jun 1921: Harry Lee married Lucile Comer.

17 Apr 1930 Census, Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN: Harry L. Bridenthal 35, AR TN VA, age at first marriage was 19, a traveling salesman, selling "soda fountain"; Lucile 32, KS KS IN, age at first marriage 23.  They were residing at 622 Harrison Street. 

Harry was a Baptist.

31 May 1964: Harry died in Fayetteville.  He is buried in Fairview Cemetery there.

 

 

Children of Harry Lee and Sarah Lillie Carl Bridenthal:

 

Carl Lee Bridenthal (30 Jul 1915 - c. 2000; m. Hazel Sweetzer 19 Feb 1936)

 

 

 

 

David Augustus Bridenthal and Artelia Couch also had a son named Virgil, who born 12 Sep 1890 and died 12 Oct 1902.
