Jones: Some Other Darlings
Matthew and Sarah Jones must have had a reason for naming their son "Darling". Were any of the men listed below related to our Matthew and/or Sarah? If you have additional information, please contact me at nancy@nancysdeadrelatives.com.

● Darling Everett Jones, the son of Lewis (b. 1740 in Orange Co, NC) and Elizabeth Arnold Jones was born 22 Jul 1764 in what became Wake County, NC. One IGI entry lists his mother as America Mercia Barnes. Another source claims he was the son of Lewis Jones and Elizabeth Arrendall, Lewis being the son of Lewis and Elizabeth Arnold. His brothers were Lewis and William B. Jones. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. This Darling first married Nancy J. Nelson and had children: Rebecca (b. 1787, d. 1860, m. David Stevens), William B. (b. 1 Sep 1790 in Martin Co, NC, d. 1 Sep 1837, m. Nancy C. Kuhn/Koon on 28 Mar 1812 in Wake Co with Darling acting as bondsman), and Henry W. Jones. Darling and Nancy divorced in 1804. On 18 Feb 1832 Darling married Nancy Huff. He appeared in the 1840 Census in Washington County, TN with 2 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 – 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1. According to one researcher, Darling and Nancy Huff Jones had: Darling (m. Lydia Ann Harrison on 6 Nov 1856 in Washington County), Lewis, William Henry, Isaac, Alfred, and James. His will, however, only names five sons, making no mention of James. Darling also had four illegitimate sons by the widow Ann Rader: Abraham, Calvin, Manuel, and Pleasant. Darling signed his will on 14 Jun 1846 and died on 9 Oct 1848 in Washington County, TN.
● Darling Jones, born 1777 in NC, married Margaret Watson on 29 Sep 1801 in Wake County, NC, with Alexander Carter as bondsman. This Darling later resided in Robertson and Henry Counties, TN, with Margaret still living. In the 1830 Census in Robertson, they're shown with 1 male 20-30, 1 50-60, 1 female 50-60, 1 slave. In 1840 in Henry County: 1 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 – 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1.[1] In the 1850 Census in Henry: Farmer 73, born NC; Margaret 70, born NC. He died 24 Apr 1850. Children: Susan F. (married W. H. Cole) and Louisa (born c. 1806) who resided next to Darling and Margaret in 1850.
● A Darling Jones was bondsman for the marriage of Mathew Jones to Sally Jones in Wake County, NC in 1802, exact date not recorded. This man could have been either of the Darlings listed above, or a third Darling. Could the bride and groom have been our Matthew and Sarah Jones of Rutherford County, TN, father of Darling Jones?
● A Darling Jones married Pency Collins on 24 Jun 1826 in Wake County, NC, with Alexander C. Collins as bondsman. Often referred to as Darling Divine Jones, he was reportedly born in Wake County in 1807, the son of John and Sarah Stokes Jones.
● A Darling Jones witnessed the marriage of Ephraim Jones to Olive Hills on 15 Dec 1795 in Rutherford County, NC.
● On 29 Dec 1774, Dolling Jones, along with George Reynolds and James Cayrey, witnessed a deed from Joseph Kershaw, merchant, to Nathaniel Cary, merchant, of Lots #304-308 in Camden, Lancaster County, SC.[2] The Millers and Drennans resided in this area.
● A Darling Jones, born c. 1780, married Jane Ross, date and location unknown.
● A Darling Jones appeared on the 1790 Census in Halifax District, Martin County, NC with 3 males over 16, 2 females, no slaves. There are Collins families listed in Martin County. See #4.
● Darling Jones, the son of William and Sally Buckley Jones, was born in 1793 in NC or SC. He married Mary Smith on 22 Jan 1819 in Amite County, MS and died there about October 1834. His father William Jones was the son of William and Sarah Hale Jones. The Drennans also went to Amite County, MS.
● A Darling Jones married Keziah Blackletter on 21 Mar 1798 in Mecklenburg County, VA.
● Robert Darling Jones, the son of Phillip (born c. 1792, Anson County, NC) and Elizabeth Wingate Jones, was born on 22 Mar 1819 in Wadesboro, Anson County, NC and died in Tishomingo County, MS in 1860. He's almost certainly the Darling Jones who married Susannah Cornelius on 13 Jul 1842 in Tishomingo County, MS, and was enumerated there in the 1850 Census. He or his son may be the Darling Jones who married in Tishomingo on 25 Mar 1861. According to Sherry Walker, Phillip Jones was in turn the son of John Jones, born c. 1763, who was the son of Abraham Jones, born c. 1730 in NC.
● Darling Jones, the son of Alvin and Betsy Hockaday Jones, married Mary M. Royal on 7 Mar 1842 in Cumberland County, NC. He was born c.1805 and was undoubtedly the Darling enumerated there in the 1850 Census. In the Agricultural Schedule, he was listed with 40 improved acres, 184 unimproved = $500; implements = $30; 2 horses, 2 cows, 5 cattle, 16 swine = $135. Darling and Mary had a son, also named Darling, in 1854.
● There was a Jones family that went from SC to KY, and had several Darlings. The earliest Darling was born c. 1761 in SC and died c. 1861. He apparently married Olive Cox. His brother Robert named a son Darling (born c. 1801 in Knox Co, KY) who married Rachel Stanfield in 1836. This uncle and nephew were both enumerated in Laurel County, KY in 1840: 1) Darling Jones Senior with 1 male 20-30, 1 80-90, 1 female 15-20, 1 60-70; and 2) Darling Jones with 2 males under 5, 1 20-30, 1 female 15-20. On 1 Mar 1854 Darling Jones (b. 10 Mar 1836, d. 4 Sep 1891) married Nancy McFadden in Larue, Laurel County. This is presumably the son of the younger Darling but there is a discrepancy between his birth date and his parent's marriage date.
● There were two Darling Jones enumerated in the 1850 Census in Pickens County, AL .
● Darling Jones was born 13 Feb 1808 in Carter County, TN, married Rachel Davis, and died on 19 May 1860 in Washington County, IN. He is indexed in the 1850 Census there. Notice that a Darling Jones married Nancy Davis, #17.
● Two Darling Jones appear in the 1850 Census for Newton County, MS.
● Darling Jones married Nancy Davis c. 1830, location unknown. Children: Thomas, William, George.
● There was apparently also a Jones family with Darlings in Fairfield, SC. One married Jane Briggs, and one married Susannah.
● Darling Jones (b. 19 Jan 1759, d. 5 Nov 1828) is buried in Longtown Baptist Cemetery, Kershaw County, SC. Alongside is wife Rebecca and son Abram.
