Toole: Generation 2
Some Children of William Toole & Anne Roberts
Daniel Toole & Elizabeth Bruner
1775: Daniel Toole was born in Culpeper County, VA.[1]
8 Jan 1783: Elizabeth Brunner was born, the daughter of Stephen Bruner of Rockcastle County. The 1830 Census verifies a birth year between 1780 and 1790.
1807: Daniel's father William Tool made a deed of gift to Daniel of his half interest in 1,000 acres in Hardin County, KY, the other half-interest being owned by James Allen. Witnesses: James Allen and William Tool.[2] Who was James Allen?
3 Apr 1808: William married "Betsy Brunner, daughter of Stephen Brunner" in Clark County, KY. Jacob Bruner countersigned the permission; John Roberts and C. Thurston Junior were bondsman; and the ceremony was performed by Moses Scott on 3 Apr 1808.[3] Jacob Bruner was supposedly Betsy's uncle.
25 Jun 1810: Daniel Toole witnessed the will of George Roberts.
1810 Census, Christiansburg, Shelby County, KY: Daniel Tool was enumerated with 1 male under 10, 1 26-45; 1 female under 10, 1 26-45. The young family was listed next to William Tool.[4]
28 Mar 1818: William Tool Senior deeded lots in Christianburg to Daniel Toole: 1) 1/4 acres on the main street of Christiansburgh adjoining Lot #1 on the east side; 2) 1/4 acre known as the Spring Mill Lot adjoining the road from Newcastle to Harrodsburg. the latter included a "horse mill". Witnesses: Daniel Wilcoxson, John Woolridge, and John (x) Radcliff.[5]

17 Oct 1818: Son Daniel tool Senior and friend Thomas Bohon were granted power of attorney by William Tool Senior. William made mentioned that they were "especially to deal with my part of the estate of William Roberts". Witnesses: Henry Beckley, William Crawford, and James Fitxgerald.[5b]
1820 Census, Shelby County, KY: Daniel Tool was shown with 2 males under 10, 1 10-16, 1 26-45; 3 females under 10, 1 26-45; 0 slaves; 2 persons in agriculture.[6]
5 May 1821: Daniel mortgaged two lots, one on the main street of Christiansburgh and "the mill lot" on a cross street to the road from Newcastle to Harrodsburg, to the Bank of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The amount of the mortgage was $325 at 6% interest, due 180 dates after the date written.[6a]
28 Feb 1827: Daniel sold two parcels on Six Mile Creek in Shelby to George D. Bondurant: 1) 96 1/4 square pole on the main street of Christiansburgh, adjoining the east side Lot #1 and Henry Beckley; 2) 82 square poles on the road from Newcastle to Harrodsburg adjoining Henry Beckley and Crawford. Witnesses: Joseph Flood and John Pearson.[7]

Betsy is believed to have died c. 1832.
According to Daniel's grandson Alpha Toole, the family moved to Alton, Madison County, IL in 1834. Daniel's daughter America was married there that year. His children moved to Missouri in 1837- 1838, but there was no specific mention of Daniel. It's conceivable that Daniel remained in IL several more years, but unlikely.
Daniel hasn't been located in the 1840 Census in MO or IL. There were no Tooles listed in the Andrew County Probate Index; nor any Tooles indexed for Volume I, which includes the years through 1887.
24 Mar 1841: The court in Holt County, MO granted leave for Toole and Barkhurst to keep a ferry on the Nodaway River. "The rapids of the Nodaway River extend across from the southwest quarter of Section 24, Range 31. Toole's or Barkhurst's Ferry was located here . . . This was the first ferry established by law in Holt County, and license to keep it was granted to Richard M. Barkhurst by the county court at its first session, March 24, 1841."[9] Richard Barkhurst was married to daughter Nancy Toole. Was the ferryman Daniel Senior or Junior, or was Daniel Senior financing the ferry for his son-in-law?
9 Feb 1850: Daniel died in Savannah, Andrew County, Missouri, age 75.[10] He's buried in a small cemetery at 5th and Benton in Savannah, where his tombstone, although still extant, is overgrown with grass each spring. Betsy Bruner Toole is supposed to be buried beside him, but we could find no marker.
